Bye bye

Well, after about a month testing TypePad, I have to say good bye. It's been a really good experience, using TypePad. I think it's a really good product. And I've made some friends here too, with fellow TypePad testers... However I won't be signing up to continue the service, at least not just yet.

I'll be busy with a new project soon, and I'll be blogging again at my usual blog. If you're interested in my photo albums, the photos can be found here.

This will be my last post here. That's all folks!

Gridlocked!

Well, I said I was going to log my web adventures, but haven't got around to doing it much. So here's one. Feel like giving your head some exercise? Or just want a little break? Well, GridLock is a nice little game that I've been playing around with lately. Rearrange blocks so that the blue block can get out.

Going healthy

In my office kitchen fridge there are usually a bunch of fruit juice poppers available for anyone who feels like a boost of vitamin C. Which is really nice of the company, of course, making sure that none of the employees would ever get vitamin C deficiency. Among the fruit juice poppers, there are some poppers which don't contain fruit juice, but vegetable juice instead! First time I saw them, I went yuck! I tried a bottle of tomato juice before (which was the same brand as some orange juice, apricot nectar, etc, so I thought it was safe), but it tasted like drinking tomato sauce. So I thought I'd never try something as exotic as that anymore. After all, I'm having trouble swallowing solid vegetables, let alone juiced ones. But today I was intrigued by this vegetable juice poppers, so I took one. Incredibly I didn't have the urge to spit it out as soon as I tasted it, which can't be bad. It tasted like drinking some soup. Not too bad really, but I don't think I'll be a regular at it though. Probably just once in a while. So there's my latest attempt at going healthy.

Pink!

In an attempt to make this weblog more 'girlie', I've come up with this pink theme. I'm not a very girlie girl, but that doesn't mean my blog can't be girlie.

Photo albums

Ok... I've managed to create two photo albums here, which include some of the photos that Stephen and I took at the Sydney harbour after the Coffee Festival last Sunday, and some photos that we took a while ago in the city. Check them out:

Beta-testing TypePad

I was chosen to be one of the beta testers for TypePad, and I am so excited! I've been hearing about TypePad, the next new product from SixApart, the people who brought us MovableType. I've heard that it's going to be even better than MT in terms of features. I've seen some screenshots on TypePad's website, and basically I'm smitten. So I signed up for beta testing. One feature that I'm really keen on trying out is the photo album. So lets see how I go.

girl + web + log

What's with the title? Well, I'm a girl. And I love the web. I love to design websites, and I love reading websites and weblogs. I have other interests too such as cooking, reading, taking photos of my beautiful city Sydney, etc. I'd like to log all these things and my other experiences as I go along.

And so a weblog is born.

On CSS

Been playing around with CSS a lot lately, and I must say it's amusing. It's amazing what CSS can do. The CSS Zen Garden is one example. It showcases many beautiful style designs to demonstrate what CSS can do. All of the designs use the same HTML code, but just by modifying the CSS you can get very different page structures and looks. Very interesting, and truly a great source of inspiration.

Some other CSS resources that I've found along the way:

And there's more! But that's for another time...

What is a weblog?

Yesterday I actually had the nerve to explain to someone about what a weblog is. The conversation just came out of the blue, and I found myself trying to explain what a weblog is. Big mistake. All I get was blank looks. It was such a traumatising event, I don't think I'll try that again in a hurry.

No matter how many articles or essays I read about weblogs, I still can't explain it. Well I know what it is, but just can't explain it. It's probably one of those things that you can't understand properly until you see one. Just like fried mars bar... which I had a chance of tasting yesterday... mmm... yummy... despite Stephen's suspicion when we first heard about it. What is it? what is it? But once you see it, you know. It's yummy.

Err.. anyway, back to weblogs, how would you explain what a weblog is?

Weblogger Types

When I started blogging, I discovered lots and lots of other blogs out there in the big wide world of Internet. It started from one weblog, then followed links to other blogs, then to others, then to others. And from looking at those weblogs, I observed that there are several types of webloggers. Usually weblogs have one dominant type, although they can have a mix of other types as well at the same time. Note, though, that this is not an attempt to put people in boxes. Rather, it's just an interesting observation. Anyway, here's what I come up with.
